3 Steps to Get Full Scholarships in America (70+ Schools)

After 12 years of studying the American education system, I can tell you with complete confidence that getting a full scholarship to study in America is not as complicated as most people think. I used this exact same system to study at the University of Rochester for free, and now I'm sharing these three proven steps with you.

If you follow these steps correctly, you can get a full scholarship for your bachelor's degree in America. Let me break down exactly what you need to do.

Step 1: Find Schools That Offer Full Need-Based Aid#

The first step is identifying universities that actually give full need-based financial aid to international students. This is crucial because not all American schools offer this level of support to international students.

Here's the good news: I've already done the research for you. There are over 70 schools in America that provide complete financial support to international students who demonstrate need. These schools will cover:

  • Full tuition costs
  • Room and board
  • Books and supplies
  • Personal expenses

You can find comprehensive lists of these institutions in my guides about 70+ American colleges offering full scholarships and 100+ universities with full funding options.

Step 2: Apply Using the Common App#

Once you have your list of target schools, you need to apply to at least 20 of these institutions. I know that sounds like a lot, but here's why this strategy works and how to make it affordable.

Use the Common Application#

The Common App is a centralized platform that lets you apply to multiple American universities using one application. This saves you enormous amounts of time because you're not filling out separate applications for each school.

Get Fee Waivers#

Here's the beautiful part: you can get fee waivers through the Common App, meaning you won't pay any application fees for many of these schools. This makes it financially feasible to apply to 20+ institutions without breaking the bank.

The math is simple: more applications = more chances of acceptance = higher probability of getting that full scholarship you need.

For specific examples of schools with great financial aid, check out my analysis of 60+ universities offering full scholarships.

Step 3: Complete the CSS Profile#

This is the most important step that many students miss. You must fill out the CSS Profile and submit it to every school you've applied to.

What is the CSS Profile?#

The CSS Profile is how American universities determine exactly how much financial support you need. It's the document that makes the difference between paying full price and getting a complete scholarship.

When schools review your CSS Profile, they calculate:

  • Your family's ability to pay
  • Your financial need
  • The amount of aid they'll offer you

CSS Profile Fee Waivers#

Just like with the Common App, there are CSS Profile fee waivers available. You can also use alternative forms if needed, but the key is submitting your financial information to every school.

The Bottom Line#

If you follow these three steps and get accepted to a university, you can get a full scholarship if you don't have the money to pay for your education. The schools will cover everything you need.

Why This System Works#

I've seen this system work for countless international students because it's based on a fundamental truth: many American universities want international students and are willing to pay for them to attend.

These institutions have large endowments specifically set aside for need-based financial aid. When you apply through the proper channels and demonstrate financial need, you're accessing funds that are already allocated for students like you.

Taking Action#

The most important thing now is to start taking action. Don't let analysis paralysis stop you from pursuing your American education dreams.

Here's your action plan:

  1. Research the complete list of schools offering full aid
  2. Create your Common App account
  3. Apply for fee waivers
  4. Submit applications to at least 20 schools
  5. Complete the CSS Profile for each school
